If you do not remember the last time that you had your vehicle battery checked or serviced, it is probably due for a battery test. A dead car battery can strike at the most inopportune time, making it essential that it is checked frequently.

To test a car battery, you will need a voltmeter. After connecting the red test lead to the battery's positive terminal, connect the black lead to the battery's negative terminal. This will generate a reading that indicates the remaining juice in the battery. A reading of 12.4 volts or higher indicates a good battery while a reading of fewer than 12 volts indicates that the battery needs to be replaced.
